a fast four patch

My second year of blogging starts with my first 2015 finish.
This is the Fast Four Patch from Amy Smart's book Fabulously Fast Quilts.  All the prints are from Tula Pink's Acacia line.  The solids are by Moda.

Amy made her quilt scrappy.  I tried but my brain just had to line up the colors.

I quilted this with a free motion dogwood in each of the larger squares and 4 -patches.  The border is a fun loop.  Is that little raccoon cute or what?

The back is pieced with a few of the larger cuts I had from this line.

We don't have any Acacia trees so I've made do with these.

A cold but fun day in the woods!

    1. Thanks Jeni. I can spend more time arranging and rearranging to try and get balance and with these colors it just wasn't working. You're lucky to have your daughter to help!

    1. Thanks Kris. I did have to order more fabric to get the middle diagonal long enough. This made the quilt bigger and gave me extra for the backing. It was a win/win decision!

  3. I love the raccoon! It's so pretty, and you know, some brains just can't handle scrappy. I'm definitely one of them. I need some line to follow, some sense of order. So you're not alone! I would have lined them all up too!

    1. Thanks Jennie. Actually, I love scrappy when others do it. (ex: Rita @ Red Pepper Quilts!) But I couldn't balance the intense colors of these fabrics. Also, I'm loving the secondary pattern in the diagonal that I didn't even notice till I took these photos!

  6. I have Amy's book too. It is fun to see your version of her quilt. It looks so different with the colors you chose, and fun to see the way you laid out the blocks. Good job!

    1. Thanks Carol. Have you made any of the "Fabulously Fast" quilts? The Moroccan Tile and Modern Buzz Saw are on my list!

  7. Hi Karen, Love the fabrics you choose. You display them in your photos so artistically, in such a way that we can get a close up view of each fabric. It is always fun to see how a quilt looks at a distance, and then up close with every detail. From afar they have a beautiful effect. Up close I can see the care, thought, and often love that goes into each one. Great Job!! Now, get going on publishing your "Quilts In My World" book!! Love, J
